One round, two races and the Engen Volkswagen Cup championship is settled for 2016. Settled once four competitors have sorted out their finishing positions after the last race.
Zwartkops Raceway sees this showdown take place on Saturday, November 26, when the Engen Volkswagen Cup field competes in the Extreme Festival.
“The final race day for Engen Volkswagen Cup competition is a fitting finish for the 2016 season,” says Mike Rowe, head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “This year has marked 20 years of Engen Volkswagen Cup competition, 20 action-packed and exciting years of fantastic national competition. To finish the season with the championship titles all still up for grabs defines exactly what this series is all about – close competition.”
There are 36 points to score and Bradley Liebenberg (12 – Ferodo), Christopher Shorter (33 – Payen / Turn 1), Keagan Masters (18 – Champion) and Shaun La Réservée (M3 – Alpine Motors / Compendium Insurance) all have a shot at the title! That's four drivers all hoping to claim the Engen Volkswagen Cup championship title with just two races left in the season.
For La Réservée, the battle on the final race day for this season is double-edged. Not only is he fighting for the Engen Volkswagen Cup title, but he is also in contention for the Masters victory – currently leading the category ahead of Juan Gerber (M8 – Glasfit / Ctrack) and Trevor Bland (M2 – Universal Health Care/Phoenix) – and there are just seven points in this battle.
These are the three drivers who will stand on the Masters podium for the year at the completion of the final round on Saturday. Who gets to stand on which step … well that will be decided on the track, one crowded and exciting lap at a time.

With both championship titles up for grabs – and the Junior championship also still to be decided, the final race day for Engen Volkswagen Cup is sure to be a dramatic finale to the season.
